You need a HQ GM Tech 2 clone.

Connect it to the vehicle and power on.

I want to flush my system this winter and have a couple of questions. 1. How much fluid should I get? And 2. Do I have to run the atomated bleed procedure once or multiple times to flush the system clean.

ABS Automated bleed by TECH2 GM procedure:
You first flush the whole system manually by pumping and bleeding or using a pressure bleeder. I would use a syringe or turkey baster to suck the master reservoir empty before adding new fluid. Then, you use the ABS automated bleed procedure to get new fluid into the ABS pump and valves. The ASB bleed procedure will pump the old fluid from it’s internal passages into the lines. I wouldn’t worry about it too much because it’s not very much fluid and you will never get all the old fluid out when you flush the brakes anyways.

The service manual says you’ll need a quart of fluid so plan on at least that much.

FYI, c5 brake bleed procedure:
I went through this procedure In May of this year when I removed the engine from my 2001. I had to disconnect one of the lines going to the Ebcm and I also replaced all four flexible lines to the calipers. At the time I did not have a engine diagnostic tool Tech 2 so I just started bleeding the old fashioned way. Started by opening the rr bleeder, lr, rf and lf bleeders. Had to pump the pedal to get the flow to start, but then just let gravity do its thing. I used a quart and a half of fluid and all fluid coming out was clean so I called it good. Brakes worked great with no sign of air in the system.

Some owners/technicians are considering purchasing scan tools for C5 Corvettes, but have no ideal which one is working and cheap. Here I advise two commonly-used GM scan tools including GM Tech2 clone and Bluetooth OBD2 adapter with Torque app, and with some experienced users’ reviews.

Advise on GM Tech2 clone

You can pick up a tech ii scanner clone for about $350 from China. I have one and I use it all the time. It has proven to be rock solid reliable and does everything a real one does.

Someone said Tech2 clone fail to reprogramming the PCM.

The Tech 2 will program the PCM for GM approved changes like manual to auto tranny, etc. when swapping PCMs or modifying the car. Even the clones can do it. You just need to use the TIS 2000 software that either comes with it or can be bought separately for about $20-30 dollars. This software is used with a computer to interface with the Tech 2.

Mine came with a USB key that will authorize changes to your car. If your VIN is not in the key you get then for a small fee you can get authorization just like any shop doing the work for you has to do.

Advise on Bluetooth OBD2 adapter with Torque app

If you’re just doing occasionally and you have an Android phone, I highly recommend purchasing a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter from They can be had for less than $30.

Pair this up with an app called Torque and you can now view everything your car has a sensor for. RPM, speed, temperatures, air/fuel (if you’re car is capable of it), and much more.

I use this combo and it’s really great.

Some user say no:

The Scantools one would work since they have a good name. There are some sites(ELM327) for 13 bucks but i think its a crap shoot if it will work with the C5.

In a word, to use Car Scanner with Torque app is at your own risk.

Engine control module recovery procedure:
1. Disconnect the programming device.
2. Power down the control modules connected to the GMLAN bus by disconnecting the positive?battery?cable for 2 minutes.
3. Reconnect the positive battery cable.
4. Determine which programming device will be used to perform the recovery steps.
If using GM MDI, connect to the programming station or Notebook using a cable (LAN). Proceed to Step 5 and then Steps 6-8.
If using a Tech 2 proceed to Steps 6-8.
5. Reboot the programming station or Notebook. This is to make sure nothing is in memory.
OBD2 Note: Selecting Replace and Reprogram from the Select Auto diagnostic tool and Process Screen is REQUIRED because some of the calibrations may be erased from the initial attempt to reprogram the module.
6. Reprogram the engine control module. Select Replace and Reprogram from the Select Diagnostic Tooland Process Screen.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the programming event.
8. Clear all DTCs using the GM Tech 2 or GDS.
