ECU Programming Tool KTAG & KESS V2 Explanation

As a professional mechanic, I have done a lot of research on ECU programmer, I was impressed on two products KTAG and KESS V2 from Obd2tool.com. Here I will Share my understanding of them.

KTAG ECU Programming Tool

KTAG V7.020 introduces another brand new novelty to Alientech world: J-Tag communication for Asian vehicles.

The main difference between KTAG is the hardware version, the software can be arbitrarily matched, but my advice is using lower version of the software which may support more models than higher version.

Why? I think the hardware cannot keep up with a higher version of the software and will lead to a lot of gray buttons mean some function cannot be used.

Well, some friends asked me that will KTAG easily burn the ECU out? The answer is never. FGTECH may get ECU damage if the power supply is reversed, but KTAG will never damage ECU. But you should notice that disconnect Internet while using KTAG, otherwise It Will Get Damaged. As for the operate system, it is better to Use Win XP3.

KTM100

KTM100 clone features the same as KTAG

You should notice Never use the original software, it may damage the device. With their software, even is safe if connect to the network. I download the original software to use with and get My KTM100 damaged, its buttons are all gray, nothing can be used, finally back to factory for repair cost me much money.

Although it is much more expensive than ktag, but KTM100 has no-replaced highlights:

1.KTM100 can read encrypted ECU, for example: someone wants to read BOSCH MEV1746BMW (P171) this is encrypted ECU, then he can use the KTM100 to read.
2.Can read BMW N55 N20, BENZ and other encrypted computers
3.KTM100 and KTAG can be used to do CHECKSUM, KESS V2 cannot. If you want to do power upgrade, read data using KTAG or KTM100, you need to change the data, and then do KTAG or KTM100 checksum, and write the ECU computer. If CHECKSUM error, usually the user’s data problems. KTAG and KTM100 can be used to verify those errors.

KESS V2 V5.017

The main difference between KESS V2 is also the hardware version. Some use the old hardware version V3.099, they just come from different manufacturers, so the price is different. And some use the new hardware version, V4.036.

The big KESS family has a version supports for more trucks, and we call it truck version, that is really a big highlight.

I just read the VAG EDC17 ecu with KESS V2 V5.017 Master ECU tuning kit, here is a little walk-through test.

ECU: Passat 2.0TDI 2000 with BOSCH EDC17C46

Programming way: in Tricore Boot Mode

Operating system: I loaded OK on Win 7 laptop

Starting:

Though ECU Scanner KESS V2 (FW 4.036) K-suite software has released to the newer V2.12/V2.13, I prefer using Ksuite V2.08 (cause I’ve seen several KESS V2 owners worked perfect on fw 4.036 and 2.08).

I have already loaded V2.08 on the laptop and directly open the Ksuite on desktop.

Pull down the vehicle list and select my car model and ECU type

Select the plug-in needed: BOSCH EDC17 C46 VAG (P269)

Select TOOL-> ECU DATA, wait the KESS V2 ECU programmer to process until it reached 100%

Install ECM Titanium 1.61 with 26000 Drivers for KTAG Kess V2

Here are the tips for ECM Titanium 1.61 with 26000 drivers. The newest Car ECU Programmer allows you to interpret and edit the files stored inside the memory of the Engine Control Unit (ECU) accurately without any difficulty; and through the use of Driver which true “contents” pose for reading the files contained in the control units, you can easily find the data stored in the file maps and the main rev limiter to increase the engine power, or simply the consumer to optimize.

Steps:

Open “My computer->ECM Titanium (E:)” to copy the folder “ECM FULL” to “My computer->Local Disk (C:)”.

Open “Local Disk (C:)->ECM FULL”.

Right click “ECM Titanium Alientech S.r.l.” to send to Desktop.

Open “Shortcut to Titanium” on Desktop.

(Solved) Kess v2 error “External exception EEFFACE “

I replaced chip and reset tokens, then get connection error “External exception EEFFACE” as following picture shows.

Try follow steps:

1.If you connect to internet with this clone tool,or make online update .The interface is destroy/broken

1.–Buy a new NPX chip with 60 tokens inside. Desolder the old NPX and change it with new.It cost 14-20USD, some users call this chip as CPU Repair Chip. Note: NPX is out of stock in some sites now, because the newest KESS V2 need not replace NPX, the NPX is preinstalled in the machine .

Details about j-link v8 solve ECU Programming Tool Kess V2 master tokens limited problem:
Step 1. Buy one LPC2478 chip to replace the original one for KESS V2 master.

Step 2. Prepare for a LINK J-LINK V8 ARM USB-JTAG Adapter Emulator.
