John Deere has recently been in the news because of their strict opposition to allowing farmers, equipment owners, and repair shops access to the information they need to repair and maintain their vehicles. If you read the main stream news, you would be left to believe that John Deere diagnostic with a computer is impossible. Well, we are here to help dispel that myth and give some more exposure to some tools that actually do perform diagnostics on John Deere. There are actually several solutions in the market, some of which we will cover in this post.

John Deere EDL and Service Advisor

The very best solution in the market is what the dealers use. John Deere dealers use a combination of PC-based computer with two critical components – John Deere Service Advisor software and the John Deere EDL v2 Adapter. The EDL v2 adapter looks like the picture shown below. It comes with a hard carry case, the adapter itself, a 9-pin connector, and the USB cable. This tool is available for purchase from our website as well.

The John Deere EDL Adapter also has a variety of “extra” cables you can purchase, almost all of which are for some of the much older equipment. You can see all of the available cables on our website.

The problem comes into the other side of the equation — The diagnostic software. The Heavy Duty Scan Tool John Deere dealers refuse to sell this software to anyone. This includes owners of the equipment, repair shops, or anyone else for the matter. The reason for this is simple: Dealers don’t want anyone besides themselves to perform John Deere diagnostic tests and commands, since it would in sense be money leaving their own pockets. If there is no one else that has the software solutions to perform the advanced diagnostics, the customer has to go to them. However, we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get our hands on this software, so here are some screen shots showing what this software looks like.

Unfortunately, as stated previously, this software isn’t available to purchase. This leads a lot of customers to seek alternative means through bootleg, pirated copies of the software from China or other black market sources. For most customers, this isn’t an option and it leads us to our next solutions

PF-Diagnose by Pocketfleet

PF-Diagnose is an universal “read everything” program, and works very well with John Deere. With this software, you would be able to read all the diagnostic trouble codes, view all the live sensor, and clear codes. Unfortunately, this tool is “read only”, so you won’t be able to perform diagnostic tests or advanced functions. However, for a lot of customer, this is a good option and gets them more then they could do before. This tool also has a low entry point, and is available for immediate download.

TEXA Diagnostic Tool: Off Highway Edition

TEXA is a company in Italy that has been around for more then 3 decades providing advanced diesel diagnostic solutions, including John Deere diagnostic software. TEXA is the only one that gets anywhere close to the ability of the John Deere Service Advisor software. TEXA has coverage on all John Deere market segments, including Agriculture, Construction, and stand-alone engines sold in generators, air compressors, and other equipment.

Injector Solenoid Test using Caterpillar ET Software

How to perform: Injector Solenoid Test using ET Software (CAT Engine)?
The purpose of the injector solenoid test is to diagnose injector wiring and injector solenoid functionality.

-Connect Caterpillar ET to your Laptop,
-Open Menu: “Diagnostics – Diagnostic Test – Injector Solenoid Test”

SD Connect C4 dead, not power up (customer solution)

Share an easy way to repair sd connect c4 multiplexer if your multiplexer is dead, not powering up via any adapter cable.

NOTE:
TRY AT YOUR OEWN RISK!

First open the MB SD C4 main unit. Slide PCB out a little bit, from the connector side, so you can see the units buttons wiring. Carefully pry the lock out & up, after that you can pull the wiring and PCB out.

Then Open 4 Main PCB screws, Carefully wiggle the PCB off from another, it might be pretty tight, so carefully, side from side!

Disconnect the LAN cable, carefully, pretty easy to break the small clip.

Then you can disconnect the Connector PCB, very carefully, might be really thight! Again slowly from both sides. You now have access to the small Fuses.

You can use multi-meter to see if they work, usually the LAN connector side 5A is burnt. So desolder the broken one, install new & enjoy your powering up mux again!

This repairing above requires experienced and professional techniques; or you are suggested to buy a cheap clone MB SD Connect C4 of high quality to replace it. Google to get the good one. I helped to put the first site here for you (no affiliation to the vendor)

MB STAR HHT Internal Fault Diagnosis Multiplexer Code 10766

Problem:

I bought the Mercedes Star Diagnostic SD connect C4 diagnostic system. I have installed the XDOS 2015.12V DAS Xentry on Dell D630 laptop, but it gave me two errors:

Error 1:

Possible reason:

1: HHT error: 2015.12 or newer 2016V Star diagnosis software does not come with HTTWIN software. If you need to troubleshoot old Mercedes, better go for Star software pre-2015.09V.

2.Multiplexer failed: We can see from the error screenshot, MB star Compact C4 icon didn’t show on the status bar which indicates you have not set the SD Connect C4 correctly, so the MB SD C4 is not well communicate with vehicle.

How to install TIS2000 TIS2Web GlobalTIS for TECH 2

This is Trollhattan’s contribution for those interested in playing with a Tech 2 Scan Tool, here’s a little info regarding the software requirements once you’ve got your hands on a Tech 2 handset.
Firstly, I’m by no means an expert on this having only recently got this up and running myself, but I think that’s the tricky part. I’d welcome comments on where this post can be improved/altered etc. Most of the information is already out there on various boards/forums but it would be nice to try to bring it together for us with a purely Saab interest.
For those who don’t know, the Tech 2 unit (handset) can be used to interrogate the various management modules on the car (ECU) to report status, fault codes and perform manual activation and monitoring in the event of fault occurrences/engine management light occurrences. This in itself is incredibly useful, but it is also possible to reprogram modules within the car to change various functions and add or replace faulty modules and programme keys. Whilst the diagnosis side can be performed standalone, to be able to actually change settings on the car, Tech 2 ‘Security Access’ is required, which means activating the Tech 2 handset via PC software.
The original Tech 2 handsets were produced by Vetronix/Bosch and were used across the GM range. Therefore, the Tech 2 unit can be used on a wide array of cars but you must have the correct model software loaded on the removable PCMCIA card. This is what turns the Tech 2 into a Saab Tech 2. (If you have mates with GM/Suzuki etc cars, you can do diagnosis on them as well by just grabbing the appropriate software card.)
The PC software also adds other functionality such as being able to update the Tech 2 software, the car ECU software, print-outs of ECU data and additional diagnostic services – I believe the TIS2Web actually includes schematic diagrams and other WIS (workshop) info, but I have yet to investigate this.
So, for the software itself, there are two options.
1. TIS2000
2. TIS2Web/GlobalTIS
TIS2000

If you get a clone, this generally comes with a couple of TIS2000 CDs/DVDs. However, these are generally NAO (North American Operations) and do not include any UK/European Saab models. In fact the only Saab this will work with is a 9-7x which was a GM US-built SUV – anyone got one of these???  Anyway, the crucial point is that this software only supports models up to 2007/8 (which is probably good enough for most of us) so if you’ve a later model you’ll need to use TIS2Web (see below). But as I said, this software as supplied does not include Saab models, so to run it successfully:
a) Download Saab TIS2008-2. This is the update disc you need to turn the GM application into something useful. You can find it if you’re patient…  Best to burn the image to a CD.
b) Install the GM TIS2000 application (needs to be Windows, 32-bit operating system). If supplied with a clone, there are normally two discs. One is the app, the other is the GM update disc, which is not required. If this is the case, install the first disc only but don’t run up the application on completion. If you didn’t get it with a clone, you can get a copy with the USB dongle for about £15 (see e) below). If prompted to select a registration method, select USB Key and OK the prompts.
c) Insert the SaabTIS2008-2 update disc (or mount the drive) into the same drive you installed the original GM TIS2000 application. This is important as the application will only look for updates at the same drive letter (i.e D:) that was used for installation.
d) Start TIS2000 from the desktop icon/start menu and OK it when it asks to do the update. When the update is finished, you’ll have a Saab 2008-2 installation.
e) All that is now required is to activate the software to get security access (enable Tech 2 programming). To do this you’ll need a USB key and patch available from the same sources as the clone Tech 2 units. These are around £15 and come with the TIS2000 GM software, or may even be supplied with the unit.
TIS2Web or GlobalTIS

TIS2Web is essentially an updated version of TIS2000 with some additional functionality (I’ve yet to play properly with it). Some may say this is the preferred option as it’s backwards compatible with earlier models and covers up to MY2012. The basic features are borrowed from TIS2000 though. Only disadvantage is it’s a bit trickier to get it working.
a) Acquire a copy of the Saab TIS2Web software. Again, this needs to be the Saab version. You can pay less than a tenner for this on the auction site, or you can find it on the internet if you look.
b) Install the software. This takes a little time and, unlike TIS2000 which allows much functionality without activation, you can’t do anything with TIS2Web until you’ve activated it.
c) Open the TIS2Web application. The application runs in a web browser so will open your default browser. This can take some time to open.
d) Once you’ve got to the registration page, you need to enter dealer information. This can be gobbledegook but I think you need to fill all the fields. Save this and then go to step e).
e) Click on the Email/Fax registration. This will generate a PDF which you should save. The important stuff is the Request ID and the Software Key.
f) To get your activation code, you need to be nice to members on one of a couple of auto diagnostic forums (unless you know someone with a keygen for this). Searching the net for this sort of stuff should bring them up as top search matches. You’ll need to join the forum, introduce yourself and politely request a code. Don’t upset them, they’re helping us out and there’s a bunch of knowledgeable people on there so no harm in being a member.
g) Once you have the code, enter it and activate TIS2Web. You’re done.
Faultfinding the TIS2Web install.

You may well have a couple of issues getting the software running initially. If your web browser refuses to connect to the TIS2Web service, it’s likely that one of the two GlobalTIS services are not running. To fix this, open the ‘services’ console either by
Start>Run and type “services.msc”
OR
Right-click ‘My Computer” select ‘Manage’ and drill down to the services icon on the left pane.
There are two services that should be running and they’ve got obvious names, something like GlobalTIS and TC6 (not near my TIS PC at the moment) and sit next to each other in the services list. In the information pane they should say ‘started’. If not, right-click and select ‘start’. If this fails with an error, try modifying the registry key below.
To open registry editor Start>Run regedit BE CAREFUL MODIFYING THE REGISTRY – YOU CAN REALLY SCREW YOUR PC UP!!!!!
In the left pane, expand the keys until you find the following
HKLM\Software\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun2.0\Global TISTC6\Parameters\Java\JvmMx
Change the value of this key from 0X0000044 to 0X00000200 and exit the registry. Try to restart the service – you should find it now works. Don’t ask me why, I got this fix from another forum – fair play to the guy who found it.
Tech 2 Hardware Issues

It’s widely reported that the manufacturing quality of some of the clone units can be much lower than the originals and there are reports of issues. I found that the flat grey ethernet cable supplied with my unit was faulty and caused me much confusion until I threw it out and replaced it with a standard network cable. You can check you have RS232 comms using the GM TIS2000 install and going into the Auto Scanner Tool Tech 2 View option. Don’t mess about with serial port settings etc as if there is a physical connection there it will work without interference. Only pins 4 and 5 of the RJ45 RS232 socket are actually used. The units are also supplied with a loopback adaptor so they can be tested internally.
Occasionally you may find the Tech 2 doesn’t connect to the car. Check your connections are secure and reset the VCI module (the thing in the base of the handset held in by the plastic release button).
Wow, quite a long post. I’ll add more if necessary. Let me know how you guys get on. Please remember that YOU CAN REALLY BREAK YOUR CARS REPROGRAMMING THE ECUS so be extremely careful, ensure good battery voltage and good connections while uploading data to the ECU. Save what’s on there first before you make any major changes.
Again, I’m very new to this myself but thought I’d put this here for like-minded Saab nuts who want to get involved with this stuff. I’m sure there are others on the forum who have much more knowledge and experience with the actual programming and diagnostics.
For now, I’m happy to have disabled the nagging seatbeat chime (am I the only person who likes to let their car warm up before driving off?) and altered the boot lock logic so it doesn’t lock itself at every available opportunity. Oh, and I’ve activated the zap sound so I know it’s been locked.

How to Identify your BMW Immobilizer System?

BMW systems: EWS, CAS, FEM/BDC

EWS: Old cars with keys unfoldable and chips 7935

CAS: CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS3+, CAS4, CAS4+

CAS 1, CAS 2: Old 7 series with semi-smart and smart cards

CAS 2: 520, 530 with keys unfoldable and normal chips ID46

CAS 3:

– Old 3 and 5 series before year 2010: OBD add keys without ECU disassembled (even when all keys are lost)

– Old 3 and 5 series after year 2010: CAS3 is updated and encrypted; have to disassemble an ECU before making keys and system will try 64 times for all keys lost

CAS 4:

New 3, 5 and 7 series before year 2012 with CAS 4 1L15Y and 5M48H;

necessary to disassemble CAS for adding new keys and all keys lost

CAS 4+:

CAS4 is updated to CAS4+ after year 2012, incl. 5M48H and 1N35H;

add new keys with CAS disassembled and a spare key;

all keys lost need find ISN codes from ECU;

FEM:

CAS 4+ on 5 and 7 series (not on 1 and 3 series in the year 2012) is updated to FEM;

CGDI BMW, CG100 and CG Pro all these device can make BMW key?

CGDI BMW:

a definitely YES.  It is a BMW specific key programming tool.  CGDI will program key for BMW EWS1-EWS4, CAS1-CAS4+ and FEM/BDC immo system. Both add key and all keys lost.

CAS1-CAS4+ all done via OBD (CAS/CA4+ by OBD is the new feature of June 2019). EWS, and FEM/BDC need to remove and done on bench.

CG Pro 9S12:

cgpro will make key for BMW EWS1-EWS4 and CAS1-CAS4+ (both add key and all keys lost).

All requires to remove the IMMO box.  CG Pro CANNOT do FEM/BDC key programming.

For example: CG-Pro add key BMW CAS4 525Li 5M48H (don’t need other devices)

CG100 Prog III:

CG100 software does have CAS1-CAS4 options, but can be used to generate BMW key ONLY.  You need to read CAS data by other eeprom programmer, i.e CG Pro, then generate key with CG100.  But in this case, CG Pro will generate key via eeprom data as well.

In a nutshell:

CGDI BMW and CG Pro share the same IMMO capacities on EWS, CAS1-CAS4+.  CG Pro requires to remove IMMO box and CGDI BMW can be done by OBD.

CGDI BMW supports FEM/BDC key programming, CG-Pro does not.

CG100 can only generate CAS1-CAS4 key.

Tips: CAS 3, CAS 3 + smart key program

OBD add a new key with a spare key or even all keys lost, done without ECU disassembled;

The steps: OBD connection to a BMW car – read key data – save key data – make a dealer key – add a new key

CAS3+ add a spare key or all keys lost:

IMPORTANT: you should know if the CAS3+ is encrypted or not: OBD connection to read key info for it (“encrypted” in sw means the CAS3+ is encrypted)

Method 1: downgrade

The good:

no need disassemble ECU

The bad:

time-consuming, it takes 1 hour around

power-consuming, you should charge the battery for the car and laptop in case that there is no power on the car

Cars: BMW MINI

To downgrade is suitable for some cars that are not easy to disassemble ECU like MINI

Note: you have to remember BMW serial number in the downgrade process in case of disconnection in the middle

CAS3 smart keys:

First disable the original key lost and be sure that only one smart key left before key programming;

If the key is disabled but the new one is not smart, you can re-generate a non-smart key with ID46 chip;

Then disable the other original smart key and the new smart key

Then switch ignition on with the new smart key

Then switch ignition on with the other original smart key

1.Install 8pin cable

2.Loosen the screw on the puncture socket.

7.The FEM/BDC PCB board can be lift up after the puncture socket is completely installed.
