My experience with SIS

I have come into possession of a full version of CAT SIS  (Service Information System). i was given (yes, that is true) said discs. they are from a company that i have done work for that has recently upgraded their version. This is not a pirated copy or warez etc.

The Heavy Duty Scanner CAT SIS version that i have is the July 2005 release. i have no documentation with the program and no key for installation, this was not available as the information had been lost – at the moment the discs are as good as drink coasters. :-)

So, the point of this is this, if anyone could help me out with the installation passcodes i would be appreciative. thanks. failing that i will get on to/drop in to the local Hastings Deering workshop during business hours and try my luck.

*CAT SIS is an information tool for Caterpillar machinery; schematics, part numbers and descriptions etc. very useful for what i do.

I only have Partstore and also find it extremely helpful, I especially like the price and availability function.We have next to zero internet away from the house so Iam thinking the DVD SIS option might be the way to go.

GM Tech2 Scan Tool pass-through vs go-between

For program a module with GM Tech2 scan tools,there are two methods. One is pass-through and the other is using the Tech 2 as a go-between.

How to do?Here we go:

1.The pass-through is to use with a laptop in the vehicle and it just uses the Tech 2 as the connection between. This is the fastest and easiest way to do it.
That is, the data are directly downloaded from the PC to the ECU in the vehicle.
Although the GM Tech 2 is still necessary in the mode, the data entry and the download control is done directly at the pc. Altogether, the method is faster, and it is recommended when a pc with TIS2000 software is within 3m of a vehicle.

1.  Connect Tech 2 to the vehicle.
2.  Connect Tech 2 to the PC switch on Tech 2.
3.  Start TIS 2000 on the PC.
4.  Select the icon ‘Service Programming System’ (Fig. 1) on the TIS2000 start page.
5.  Start TIS 2000 on the PC.
6.  On the screen ‘Select Diagnostic Tool and Programming Process’ (See picture below) make a selection for

***Pass-Thru mode
***the reprogramming of an ECU that was not exchanged or the replacement/programming of a new ECU
***the ECU location.
Then clock ‘Next’ button.

2.The go-between method is for when you can’t bring the computer into the vehicle and uses the gm Tech2 scanner as a go-between. You connect the Professional Diagnostic Tool Tech 2 to the vehicle and download the module information that you want to program. Then you disconnect, run to the computer running Tis2000, connect it to the computer and download the programming information for that module, disconnect again and run back to the vehicle, connect it and it automatically programs the module. It can take a long time depending on the module (PCM is the longest).

SD Connect C4 change Mercedes time and date in cluster

Here is the instruction on how to change MB time/date with 2018.05 SD Connect C4 DAS/Xentry software.

Equipment:

I have bought Star Diagnose multiplexer with DAS/Xentry software on www.obd2tool.com

I think it’s cheaper than other places.

Follow the steps:
1. Install and activate the software. Software is pre-installed and activated if you get the MB SD Connect C4 multiplexer and Dell D630 laptopbundle package.
2. Connect MB SD C4 system with vehicle via OBD port
3. Run DAS software
4. Come to the main Control units group menu->F3
5. Select Information and communication option->F3
6. Select IC Instrument Cluster->F3
7. Select Diagnosis to plant specifications->F3

Should I buy GM MDI instead of Tech 2 clone

The Tech2 clone is definitely fine, but I think people looking for a good tool now should really look at an MDI clone instead.

The Future of the Tech 2

The Tech 2 remains an essential tool through at least the 2010 model year. The GM MDI will not support past models when its diagnostic capabilities are introduced. And, the Tech2 will continue to be needed to diagnose all vehicles fromprevious model years. Remote programming with the Tech 2 will continue to be supported for use on all 2007 and previous vehicles.Additional information will be supplied in future.

HOW WILL THE G-M MDI BE USED?

The new G-M MDI can be used only in the Pass-Thru method. This means you can use it as your programming tool, while your Tech 2/CANdi remains available for diagnostics and other duties.

I have issues with it, however:

The GM MDI will not support past models when its diagnostic capabilities are introduced.
I’m not sure what this means. The GM MDI WILL clearly support past model years with the Tech2win applications. So I’m not sure what this statement actually means. The only thing I can think of is that GM will remove pass thru support at a later date, but since its all been cracked already, this shouldn’t matter.

The new G-M MDI can be used only in the Pass-Thru method. This means you can use it as your programming tool, while your Tech 2/CANdi remains available for diagnostics and other duties.
This statement implies that the pass thru method is a bad thing. Considering the Tech2win application works perfectly with EVERY function on all GM vehicles as far back as 1996, I don’t understand what this is really saying. It implies that you can’t do diagnostic troubleshooting using pass-thru, when in fact you can.

As far as I can tell from my testing, this is a basic sales pitch in order to encourage people to keep the Tech2 as well as purchase a MDI2 unit – both of which are incredibly expensive if purchased legitimately through GM.

In reality, you don’t need a  Obd2 scan tool Tech2 and a MDI2. An MDI interface is more than enough especially on our older cars like the C5 corvette which GM will unlikely ever release further PCM upgrades for given the fact they were discontinued over 10 years ago.

Tech 2 purchased- quality as my original, works good

Tech 2 review: (credits to David)

My overall impression after playing with the Tech 2 scan tool for a few days- This thing is cheap, works great, and is of the same build quality as my original. Some of the few differences that I immediately noticed are the buttons feel different and the screen is much brighter. The buttons on my original have a distinct “click” feel to them, and the clones are mushy. However I found that the more that I press them, the clickier they get. The screen being brighter is a plus.

I just did a “Fast-Learn” on a G8’s 6L80E last week with mine. A Snap-On MODUS was not able to do this. There are simply factory diagnostic procedures that a Tech 2 can do on GM vehicles that no other tool can. But yes, to reflash PCM’s, TCM’s, etc, you need to have authorization from the Tech Center, which means you have to be a dealership or a paying subscriber to the service which is a serious chunk of $$$$.

I reflashed my ecm. only have to buy the 55 dollar three day access. the Car Diagnostic Tool tis2000 software to flash, and the dongle key to unlock the functions to flash is and extra 25 dollars, and that was why my tech 2 cost me 325. cause i bought the software and dongle with it.

With that said, Bosch (who now owns the rights to GM Tech 2’s as they purchased out Vetronix), will not support the unit because it’s a factory knock-off. So should you have to replace the VCI module (I’ve had to replace mine due to wear and tear on the connection where it damaged the motherboard inside), or any other necessary repair.

Also, Obd2 tool Tech 2’s can only be updated through 2009 MY vehicle info, was my understanding from GM. For 2009+ GM has gone to a new setup called MDI. MDI is backwards compatible with pre-2009 GM vehicles (it even has the software on the screen to emulate the screens you’d see on the T2).
